I tried to get information over the phone about venting my water heater from DRF Water Heating Solutions so that I could buy the right water heater from Home Depot for them to install. They were not very helpful in answering my specific questions, saying only that their installers would have to see when they got to my house. The catch-22 on that is that there was a $149 non-refundable visit fee, only for Jesse to tell me, when he arrived, that I needed a short water heater, not the tall one I bought (to replace another tall one that seemed fine before). He didn't think that there was enough room above the water heater to vent it properly. So I had to return the original water heater to Home Depot and buy a different, shorter, one. The second time the installers (Andrew and Scott) came, all went well. They were timely, efficient, friendly, and informative. But I could have bought the right water heater to start if DRF had only told me over the phone the minimum height I needed between the top of the water heater and the vent hole in the wall going to my chimney. The lack of that information cost me $149 and the trouble of bringing a water heater into my basement, returning it, and bringing in another.
